Indianapolis, the "Crossroads of America," is the dynamic Indiana state capital. Founded in 1820, it attracted many ethnic groups in the mid 1800s leading to a strong growth and much variety. The Germans, Irish, African-Americans, Italians and Eastern Europeans were the major cultural groups.

Today, the metropolitan Indianapolis region is home to more than 1.5 million residents and is packed with arts and culture, internationally known sporting events and spirited nightlife activities. Indianapolis, known to many as the "racing capital of the world", is host to two of the world's highest-attended single-day events: the Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400.

In recent years, the economy of Indianapolis has flourished, and the city has drawn much acclaim for hosting a variety of amateur sporting events - a nice complement to Indy's three professional sports teams, the Indiana Pacers, the Indiana Fever, and the Indianapolis Colts. "Indy" is also home to the world's largest children's museum and the second largest medical school in the United States.
